Training costs less than you think, and often nothing out of pocket. Between your own scholarships, benefits your service member can transfer to you, and state workforce grants, there's usually a way to cover a credential. Here's where to look.

SpouseWorks Scholarship

Formerly MyCAA, up to $4,000/year toward portable licenses, certs, and associate degrees.

Transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill

If your service member transferred benefits to you, they can cover tuition and fees.

State Workforce Grants (WIOA)

State-funded training grants for in-demand trades, often stackable with the SpouseWorks Scholarship.

Common Questions (FAQ)

Will my license transfer when we PCS?

It depends on the trade and state. Many trades now have interstate compacts or reciprocity.

Am I eligible for the SpouseWorks Scholarship?

Generally, spouses of service members in pay grades E-1–E-9, W-1–W-3, and O-1–O-3 qualify for the SpouseWorks Scholarship (formerly MyCAA). You'll need a high school diploma or GED.

Can I do any of these careers remotely?

Some — drafting/CAD, logistics, and quality roles often offer hybrid or remote options that survive a move better than on-site trades.

What if I have to move before I finish training?

Choose programs with transferable credits or online components, and keep your records.
